as a creative person who thinks creatively all the time, i get it. i place a reassuring, firm hand on your shoulder. isn’t creation a funny, crazy act that most people don’t get? sometimes you just become so creative that you spend a whole year writing and directing a short film that you lifted wholesale from daniel clowes. like when you’re shia leboeuf, a self-described daniel clowes fan.

clowes told buzzfeed:

“The first I ever heard of the film was this morning when someone sent me a link. I’ve never spoken to or met Mr. LeBeouf. I’ve never even seen one of his films that I can recall — and I was shocked, to say the least, when I saw that he took the script and even many of the visuals from a very personal story I did 6 or 7 years ago and passed it off as his own work. I actually can’t imagine what was going through his mind.”

ha ha. daniel, i’ll tell you what was going through leboeuf’s mind: the act of giving birth to something amazing. it can be so all-consuming that you forget that you actually aren’t giving birth to anything and that someone else already gave birth to it, and that’s why you thought you had the idea in the first place.

now if you’ll excuse me, these darned creative impulses just don’t let up. i’m going to work for a few hours on a little personal project i’ve started calling “my little pony.” when it’s ready, i’ll be sure to let you in on my little creative world :)
