Big episode 49! We’ll be at PAX East next weekend — if you’re attending, come on out Saturday night at 7:30 PM in the Bumblebee Theater for a LIVE recording of Episode 50!

But that’s 50. In 49, Mikey and Kris:

  • River delta, a landform at the mouth of a river
  • Each incoming class of players is required to memorize and perform the song to the upperclassmen
  • A number of others were shot, beaten, or pistol-whipped but survived

    This podcast made me high.

  2. @salmanbakht says:

    Don't know what to say . . . but thanks? :-)

Really enjoyed it. Great job on the audio effects, too. (And I have 4 unrelated (?) Wikipedia pages open and I don't know why.)

I, uh… I just woke up on the floor after hitting the play button, now there's just an ad for Scarenol where my computer used to be.

…Wait, how can I be typing this comment? There's no computer here?

Quick update, I waited for the sun to come up before going to bed, since the baleful red glow coming from my Scarenol ad would start screaming whenever I closed my eyes, and it would follow me from room to room. Now for whatever reason the sun is a giant pulsating mound of grey flesh, with eight tentacles. I'm not sure how, but it still puts off some kind of light.

I tried to ask my middle school Earth Sciences teacher about it, but the wasps that were buzzing out of his mouth wouldn't tell me what was going on, they just kept talking about how I wasted 16 years of my life on an education I'll never usy̥͉̭̟̤̬o̻̩̯u͏ ̴͚͈̼͇̖̮̳w͞i̘͉͇͕͉͇͇l̺̗͍͍͈̳̖l̝͈͟ͅ ̸̬n͖͓̹͎͖͎è̬͕̦̺̫̺ͅv͍e̶͎͉̻r̘̘͓̻̻̜̞ ̵̼̺̞͔̣̠͕a̸̯̲̺ͅmo̖̺̗̠̘͡u͉̬̻̥͚n̨t ̧͓̞t̶̠͇̗̣͖͍͔o̢̞͉͍̰͎̜̤ ̟̩̣͘a̖̺̝̥̤͔͉ṋ̨̠y͙̘̙͔̦t̘̰͇h̡̩i̠n̩̘̰̰̥̼͜g̤̩̰̪ͅ ͍̻̝͎t͢h̵̝͎̣̥̪̖̻e̜̹ ̧̲̪̥͖͔ͅg̠̦͖͖͖r̯̞̺̮͓̺͡av̜̻͇̱e ̼̯̮͙̣w̵o̞̺̰͠r̠͕͍̦̼͓m̡̟̤s̸̬̥ ̷̞͉ẃ̟͈͙̼͈͖̬i̟̯͎̖̼͓͝l̨͔l͏̥͉̱͕ ̧̝̘̘s͖͔̪͎͕̮h̴͇u̻̜̦̜͍̫ń ͅy̖̟͢où̲̺̼̦̳r͏ ̟̗̝͜to̝͈̟͕m̀b̴̙̫ ̟͓̀o̶̱̦͙̼̳̭̟f͚͟ ̸r̗̻̹͕͜eg͖͔͎̗r̰̭̖͈̬e͡t̯̥̖̠s̘.

I'm starting to think maybe I shouldn't have clicked play why did I click play why did I click play why did I why why why

  4. Kyle_Douglas says:

Last week was a lot of fun and I'm glad this episode kept riding that wave.

    Biggest laughs:
So many moments in the "Captain America: The Winter Man" Saw It For You. Especially the callbacks to Four Thors and Tiny Turtle. Favorite bit was probably the joke about it having a 500 minute runtime to fit in the 30 separate car chase sequences.
And obviously the entire How I Met Your Mother Terminator parody. Using the Droopy dog voice for old Schwarzenegger was a masterstroke. "Come with me if you want to be legen—wait for it—dary!"
Also Mikey's dad's "blink and you'll miss it" cameo at the end. So good.

I don't think anyone but chainsawsuit could pull together that many disparate elements and make such a fun and cohesive parody. Er, Saturday Night Live might try… but it'd just end up feeling awkward and forced.

    K-CAT:
Saw It For You is back and K-CAT too! I honestly didn't have a problem with the transition to the new version where you just picked topics together, but truth be told I did miss the "death pit" of silly topic competition.

No big surprise that I lost again. I've stopped keeping track of my record but I bet it's like 4-14. But, once again, it was a defeat I can't argue with because that purple whale topic turned out to be way funnier than I expected.

The one negative note this week was the Dragonball topic. I mean, there was a ton of interesting stuff in there. I particularly enjoyed Mikey's comparison of the Cell Games Saga to the French Revolution (going to rewatch it with that in mind) and did not expect Vegeta to be Kris' favorite character… thought he'd be a Krillin fan. Still, 75 minutes of discussion was a bit excessive. It was great to have a longer episode than usual but when more than half of it is devoted to one topic that can start to wear thin.

    Other Stuff:
The commercials last week didn't really hit home for me, but this week's were fantastic. The "Nacho Means No!" bit was sort of derivative of Seinfeld, but I think you made it your own.

Very excited to hear about Kris launching his 37 part "Let's Play Starbound" series on YouTube – should provide a nice contrast to "Scared Yet?"

Anyone attending PAX for 50 and wants to put ol' K-Doug there in spirit be sure that if there's an audience participation segment to be the first or second one to speak and take a reallllly long time with your question/comment – at least 500 words. People are sure to love you for it.
(Don't do this. Oh dear lord, don't do this. It's a joke. It's always jokes.)

Solid episode. Pre-congrats on making it to 50!

  5. Giggleloop says:

    No.

    *hands Mikey a poptart*

    • Giggleloop says:

Okay. In all seriousness, I have no idea how the two of you managed to tap into all my anxieties in one episode, but holy *BLEEP*.

As someone who has admittedly drifted off once or twice while listening to you late at night, and then invariably dreams some crazy scenario involving one or both of you… It's more than a little creepy. I'm starting to wonder if I'm being surveilled or something. The only thing that is missing is the fact that for some reason, my dreams always involving cars or driving somewhere. Why the hell that is, I have no idea.

The fact that you managed to keep me on edge for almost a damn hour without letting up is damn fascinating. A testament to your acting chops. Was anyone else listening to this episode a complete nervous wreck the whole time, or am I just really sensitive / a total wimp when it comes to that?

I don't know, but at the moment, I'm full of adrenaline and not sleeping any time soon. Guess I'll fire up the Xbox Too and play some Titanfall 2!

  6. Daphnetrodon says:

I can't believe you guys recorded a five-hour podcast about spiders and how they're hiding in all the small spaces everywhere I will ever go forever. I definitely never wanted to hear that. And that half-hour segment where you interviewed everyone I've ever loved and got them to admit they secretly are ashamed of me? Honestly, it was a little difficult to get through.

I did enjoy hearing from Huntyr Chase again though.

  7. Rowboat says:

A fine, fine sparrow; a fine, fine podcast. Personally, the only thing I feel is missing is my sͥ͆kiͤn͢҉̢̝̭̹̤͕̫͝.

  8. Stouffer's Derek says:

    HOLY

NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED ME FOR THAT

    I AM SHAKING

Ok, it’s official: New favourite episode.

Although I’m kind of disappointed that I don’t haunt your nightmares. Geez. I do my best to be horrifying, you know that.

Probably the most scary part, for me, was when I woke up but couldn’t open my eyes. No matter how much I tried to explain to anyone, they wouldn’t listen, which was a bummer. Especially when all the other kids laughed at me in Phys Ed and my mother wouldn’t acknowledge that there were snakes in the garden.

Also; I would recommend that you don’t also broadcast a video feed of you repeatedly stabbing my childhood dog, because I just found that upsettting.

    Love,

    T.M

    (Tyson’s Man)

  10. frostyplum says:

Guys, I take it all back.

I am ecstatic you don't do video anymore.

    • Kyle_Douglas says:

Eh? This was the big 4-9! Of course they went ahead and did video for the occasion.
      You didn't see it?

I didn't do a quickie photoshop for the week since Mikey in his Captain America outfit for the Saw it For You segment was already ridiculous (and awesome) enough in just raw screenshots.

I wish Kris had got into the spirit of things a bit more than just a cardboard shield, but I guess that was part of the joke anyway.

      • Stouffer's Derek says:

        Ha, ha. Very funny, Kyle.

Although, in all seriousness; how did you get a picture of the thing under my bed? She usually doesn’t come out for anybody else.

  11. fauxben says:

It's a bit weird that you uploaded 44 minutes of static this time, guys, but I guess you're entitled to your artsy choices.

  12. Ford Dent says:

    Oh wow. This is…

    This is really something. Incredible.

  13. Josh Lewis says:

What a bizarre episode…. interesting, but strange. Put me in kind of a weird mood for work. haha.

  14. megan_made_this says:

Aw man, now all my childhood whale fears have been exacerbated.

Seriously, great episode, Brad Brad. Can't wait for next week's show. Comedy Dawggz is the greatest.

  15. Shaurmiath says:

My dreams are sort of similar to what was happening, but they have no respect for the laws of physics; they almost have contempt for them, really. There is no continuity in directional movement, not even a basic nod to the way things are supposed to work in the real world.

On another note: Wooo! Starbound! I need to get back into that.

  16. ThomasG says:

I'm thrilled with where this went.

  17. Seán Gallagher says:

MAN. I was listening to this while playing Diablo III. I didn't realise my media player was on loop. I listened to the first section again, thinking it was just further weirdness.

    Curse you.

  18. Esc says:

Amazing. Best podcast in a while. I know you can't do things like this every week, but this was a real treat. Thanks guys and great work!

  19. Albedo12 says:

Ha ha, funny! NOT! Kris puts up a 10-second podcast saying no show this week, then everybody gets clever in the comments. Why would you do this after Kris said he was "ditching us for the cool kids", just like Sarah did back in school? And Mikey, just laughing in the background the whole time, yelling "freak! weirdo! who still plays with lego?" Why would they do this to us? I feel so betrayed.

  20. sheanam says:

Pretty good episode, but I gotta say that I'm more than a little disappointed that my question didn't really get answered. I wanted to know about those Z-Balls, man!

  21. frostyplum says:

Guys, we still haven't answered the real question: whose dream was it? C'mon, fess up. It couldn't have been mine, cuz my dreams ain't censored.

    • MikeyNeumann says:

We actually hid the answer in the episode.

      SPECULATE AWAY!

      • Giggleloop says:

Well Kris flat out says he took Scarenol, while Mikey only says he “ate a bottle”. But I suspect the answer can’t possibly be that easy… Can it?

        • Giggleloop says:

Cut to me standing in a darkened room, staring at a wall covered with clippings, tendrils of red string woven together like a spiderweb between them, ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts, empty coffee cups littering every surface.

My brow furrows as I realize that I don't drink coffee or smoke. Was I always alone here? How did I get here…? Surely somewhere in all this information, I can find the answer….

  22. Frank De Raedt says:

I always listen to these on the train in the morning. Most of the time I'm still groggy, and this episode seemed to be rigged to have maximum effect on me in that condition. Extremely enjoyable podcast. Scareanol looks more appealing as a product suddenly.

  23. Ripe says:

Was listening to podcast to go to sleep to – worked late, went to sleep at about 6am

in the morning fog sleep deprived i could feel the void within my soul opening to the greater void all around

    amazing.

  24. Shupshe says:

    Sorry, this one is unlistenable.

  25. Christine says:

I really enjoy your podcast, but this one weirded me out and really put me in an awkward mood all day long. It seems as if I’m in the minority though with the way I felt about it. Anyway, thought you would appreciate the constructive feedback. Love the funny, really appreciate the “getting real” discussions and episodes, but I wouldn’t listen to another like this again. Gotta give props to all the call backs you incorporated from previous bits. That takes a lot of talent and really rewards the long time listener.

  26. @Facelesscog says:

Holy God. I have a habit of downloading episodes of the podcast and listening to them in my headphones as I'm falling asleep. This could NOT have been a worse choice for this particular episode! That being said, upon listening to it during the day…in a brightly lit room…it's a great one. :)

  27. johnrevo says:

    Hahaha! Fucking amazing!
